Loes Botman (*1968 Nijmegen/Netherlands)

'The desire to draw has always been there; as a child with pencil and paper, at the art academy as a young adult with all possible drawing and painting materials. And now as an artist exclusively with soft pastel. I have become a pastel freak. I write articles for English, German and Dutch magazines about painting with pastel; I also make videos. I draw for childrens’ books, but have also published two art books. I exhibit at home and abroad in more than 200 exhibitions and regularly give workshops and lectures. Colours and lines control my life in an extremely pleasant way. And I hope to share some of my enthusiasm with other people, so that the world becomes a little more beautiful every day.'

April 2020 - category: Animal - challenge: Black and White

We would like to see paintings of animals, which are black AND/OR white by nature such as zebras, magpies, dalmatians, polar bears, arctic foxes, black bears etc. Instead of just using black, white and different shades of grey, try to depict the subtle nuances which are present in their feathers or fur or even enhance them. When you get the values right, even unexpected colours can work. We are looking forward to seeing your entries!

You may upload up to two paintings, deadline is April 25. Happy painting!
