Sapeh
Image information
Title: Sapeh
Medium : Soft pastel on Pastelmat
Size : 40 x 30 cm
Inspirations : My own setup – a continuation of my series on my favorite travel collections that span across 2 decades, this is my 3rd in the series after Piring and Topeng. Sape is a traditional instrument used by the natives of Sarawak. It looks like a guitar but the sound is different. It is only played during festive and celebration. The hand carved wood and painting on this Sape represents Sarawak culture. Propped behind is the hand stitch Hanoian patchwork like duvet by SAPA tribe (Hmong etnic minority). I love collecting such patch using then as day bed covers or wall art décor. The teak wood and rattan armchair is among the set of my pioneer home furniture which I bought for my first home. I have personally designed it and had it a skill Balinese carpentry master to custom made for me.
