"My medium is pastel. I like the simplicity and immediacy. Pastels are pure pigment with a binder. The colors remain true over centuries. Within my art is the desire, to capture an ephemeral moment and preserve it with all its colors and shades of emotion."

 

Christine Obers has won numerous international awards. Her artwork has been exhibited at the National Arts Club, Pastel Society of America Exhibit in New York, Albuquerque NM, Moro Bay CA, and the Aurora Art Center just outside Toronto Ontario. She has been featured in major art publications, Pastel Journal and Southwest Art. Christine Obers was recently awarded the Master Circle Gold Medal from the International Association of Pastel Societies. She is a Distinguished Pastelist in the Pastel Society of the West Coast and Master Pastelist in the Pastel Artists of Canada Association. Obers' commissioned artwork is in private collections throughout Canada and the US.

 

Growing up in Canada, Christine began commissioned oil paintings of landscapes and animals while in her teens. After high school she studied graphic design and illustration at George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario subsequently moving to the US to pursue a career in advertising. Her career as senior art director led to many opportunities to explore her creativity in a multi faceted way while working for major corporations, Chevron, Macy’s, Domino’s Pizza, Royal Robbins and E&J Gallo Winery. In 2009 Obers retired to devote herself to fine art.

Christine’s love of horses has taken her to Portugal to train in dressage and to Ireland where she was schooled in cross country. Her passions are exploring, riding and art. She currently lives in the California mountains near Yosemite National Park. Whenever possible, Christine enjoys adventures to remote areas traveling by horse or mule.
